Planning to buy OnePlus 6T? You should read this first.

If you’ve watched each and every review of OnePlus 6T from YouTube, it would have already convinced you to buy this device right away. I’m in the same boat as you guys are but while researching more, I found out something. I found out that there’re a few things that may or may not make a difference to you, but they do to me.

Let’s see if these things are important to you. But before that, let me point out this awesome fact. OnePlus 6T has exceptional developer support. As a developer, you can root OnePlus 6T, flash a custom recovery and custom ROMs without worrying about warranty. If you’re one those nerd, just go ahead and buy it. These are not for you.

OnePlus 6T Short-comings

The absence of a headphone jack

All these years I’ve been more inclined towards OnePlus because they had a headphone jack. I simply hate it when I have to charge one more piece of electronics every night. Those wired headphones were simply great. You could just plug them in and start listening. But, smartphone companies had to throw that port away.

OnePlus didn’t abandon the headphone jack until OnePlus 6T. I understand that they may have to make space for that in-display fingerprint reader, but my question is whether it was worth it?

Missing LED notifications and no always-on display

OnePlus 6T doesn’t have that LED notification light which was once a feature of several flagship phones. I get it. It is 2018 (almost the end), and we have an always-on display which is way better. But what’s more disappointing is the absence of always-on display on OnePlus 6T. Its predecessor, i.e., OnePlus 6 had the always-on display.

OnePlus says that the reason for not adding this was because of the battery concerns.

In-display fingerprint reader

This was supposed to be a reason for buying OnePlus 6T, but that’s not the case here. The in-display fingerprint reader has limitations. It can’t register your fingerprint if the display is turned off. This means that you need to do it the old-fashioned way – turn on the display, and then place your finger. Not to mention the sensor is pretty slow. I guess we could have waited a few more years to get it to perfection.

That glass back

Companies add glass back to the phones to support wireless charging. There’s no other reason to add it as it makes the device fragile. OnePlus 6T doesn’t have wireless charging yet it has the glass display. Does it make any sense to you? It could be that they wanted to make the phone more premium looking, but you’ve got to consider this aspect.

To me personally, these short-comings may seem tiny, but they make a great difference when it comes to using the device daily. For example, you’ll be using that fingerprint sensor almost 50 times daily. Shouldn’t it be perfect? What do you think?
